The Braves made a few adjustments to the big league bullpen on Monday heading into tonight’s game against the Phillies. This afternoon, Atlanta designated reliever Tyler Thornburg for assignment and recalled lefty Dylan Lee from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Thornburg’s one-inning appearance on Sunday versus the Marlins was his first in over a week, as the 33-year-old righty really hasn’t been used much lately. While not exactly dominant, his performance so far this season with Atlanta has been fine. In 9.1 innings total, Thornburg owns a 3.86 ERA / 2.56 FIP in the majors, to go with 10 strikeouts and five walks.
Lee, on the other hand, has been leaned on plenty so far this year, though solely in the minors. The 27-year-old is already up to 15.2 innings with the Stripers in 2022, and in that span has tallied 23 strikeouts. The southpaw has given up some runs here lately down in Triple-A, but for a stretch earlier this month he was nearly unhittable, going six consecutive frames without an earned run from April 27 to May 11. Hopefully he can help the Braves bullpen in its Phillies series to begin the week.
